GUWAHATI: Olympic medalist from Assam Lovlina Borgohain becomes emotional on receiving a rousing and traditional welcome at Guwahati airport on Thursday.
"I am elated to see the people of Assam gather here to welcome me. I have no words to express my feelings. I am disheartened that I couldn't bag Gold for Assam. I would like to thank everyone", said Lovlina while trying to hold back her tears.
"I want to hug my parents really tight once I reach home", she added.
The ace pugilist reached Guwahati on Thursday morning. She was welcomed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with Sports Minister Bimal Borah and Water resource Minister Pijush Hazarika.
Sarma welcomed Lovlina with a traditional Assamese ‘Gamusa’ and ‘Jaapi’, while the beats of 'dhul' and tune of 'pepa' reigned in the background.
Sharing pictures with the champion, the Chief Minister tweeted “With pride & glory, I welcomed our star Olympian medalist " target="_blank" rel="noopener">@LovlinaBorgohai at Guwahati airport.”
Lovlina will be heading to Taj Vivanta from the airport.
Later in the afternoon, she will attend the grand felicitation program organized by the the state government at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra at 3PM.
The Program will be attended by several dignitaries along with the Chief Minister and state sports Minister Bimal Bora.
She will head towards Raj Bhavan post event and then to Radission Blu hotel for the night.
The people of Assam have been eagerly waiting for the Olympian's arrival. Posters and banners welcoming Lovlina were put up across Guwahati to mark the homecoming of the first Assamese to bag an Olympic medal.
