GUWAHATI: Ace pugilist from Assam Lovlina Borgohain has finally reached Tokyo to pursue her dreams of winning an Olympic medal for her country.

After reaching the Japan capital, Lovlina posted two pictures on social media from the Games Village which have been widely appreciated by her followers. Wishes have now started pouring in for the star in the comments section of the pictures.

"You are in the Olympics to represent India and we hope you will make our country more proud. Thank You. I am eagerly waiting for the day when I will see you guys winning medals," wrote one user, while another said, "Hearty Best Wishes.. Definitely you will make us proud.. Your presence in Tokyo Olympic is a pride moment for rest of Assam.. God bless."

Lovlina has become the first woman from Assam to qualify for the Olympics and the second boxer from the state to represent the country after Shiva Thapa. In 2020, she became the sixth person from Assam to receive Arjuna Award.

An 88-member Indian contingent including boxers Mary Kom, Lovlina Borgohain and 52 other athletes arrived at Narita International Airport in Tokyo on Sunday.

The athletes were given a formal send-off and best wishes on Saturday night at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by Union minister for youth affairs and sports Anurag Thakur and MoS for youth affairs and sports Nisith Pramanik.

With 127 athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, India will be having its highest ever playing contingent.

Apart from Mary Kom and Lovlina Borgohain, the other athletes from Northeast, who will represent India in Tokyo Olympics are Nilakanta Sharma, Sushila Chanu, and Lalremsiami (Hockey), Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting), Tarundeep Rai (Archery), and Sushila Likmabam (Judo).
