LPG transporters’ strike called offLPG

Guwahati (Assam), September 14, 2018:

The North Eastern Packed LPG Transporters’ Association (NEPLTA) on Friday called off its indefinite strike following a discussion with officials of the state government.

A source said the strike was called off after the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) kept the tendering process on hold for two months giving the transporters time to negotiate on their demands. However, the source said even though the strike was called off, there was a possibility that it would take 15 to 20 days for things to normalize.

The NEPLTA had gone on the warpath in protest against tweaking of terms and conditions of the tendering process by IOCL authorities. The new tendering process, if implemented, would have lowered the rate per trip for transportation of LPG cylinders by around Rs.500. Also, the NEPLTA was miffed over the move by the IOCL to shift the operations of its head office from Guwahati to Kolkata.
