Nurse arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting Cancer patients in Hospital

Guwahati, January 17, 2019:

In a shocking incident reported from Guwahati’s B.Barooah Cancer Institute, a male nurse has been apprehended for allegedly sexually molesting three female patients on the night of December 31. A case was registered against the accused after complaints from the patients.

The accused has been identified as Kamal Kanti Sen Choudhury, a resident of Belonia in Tripura. It is to be mentioned that he had tendered his resignation of January 8 and had gone back to his hometown.

“We received complaints that he had committed the act on December 31st. He had resigned on January 8 on the pretext of finding a new job. We picked him up from his house (in Tripura). He is currently in police custody and shall be produced in Court tomorrow,” said Ratneswar Das, SI, Paltan Bazar Police Station, while speaking to InsideNE. The accused has been charged with sexual harassment, rape and attempt to steal.

The case has sent shockwaves across the state as it puts a question mark on the safety and security of women in hospitals.

Earlier, on November 4, 2018, a similar incident had occurred, where a minor girl was raped in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh by a hospital staffer.

In light of these incidents, it can be argued that the government must implement certain guidelines to hospital authorities to ensure the safety and security of patients.
