Hojai (Assam), September 14, 2018:

A day after the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested suspected Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist Qamar-uz-Zaman, the Assam Police on Friday detained another person in Hojai for allegedly being in constant touch with Zaman.

The police suspected Shahnawaj Alam, the person detained in Hojai, knew everything about Zaman as he had been in contact with the HM terrorist for a long time.

Zaman, a resident of Assam’s Jamunamukh, was arrested on Thursday from Kanpur.

UP Director General of Police, OP Singh, said Zaman was planning an attack on Ganesh Chaturthi and based on specific inputs, he was arrested from Kanpur's Chakeri.

He said the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) was tracking him for the past few days leading to his arrest. The terrorist came under the police radar after he had posted a photo of him with an AK-47 rifle on social media. The police further added that he was trained in Pakistan last year.
