DIPHU: A 40-year-old man was reportedly lynched last night at Karashi Bey village under Bakalia police station in Karbi Anglong district for alleged illicit affair with a woman.
The victim, identified as Monsing Rongpi, a resident of Barelong Bey village under Bakalia police station, was allegedly caught in a “compromising position” with a woman from Karashi Bey village by the villagers.
A mob gathered and took the man to the village ground. They allegedly tied him up to a football ground goalpost and beat him up with bamboo sticks. He was also allegedly assaulted with sharp edged objects to which Bey was assumed to have succumbed.

Police, who came to know about the incident this morning after being informed by some locals, have registered a case No. 09/21 at Bakalia police station and eight alleged suspects have been arrested in this connection.
The police sent the body to Diphu Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
The arrested have been identified as Sampri Teron, Kahanbamon Tokbi, Shiva Ronghang, Waisong Kramsa, Jip Enghi, Hukumsing Ranghang, Rustom Rangphar and Dhaniram Rangphar.
