Man-elephant conflicts continue to be a cause of concern for people of Assam's Udalguri district. At around 6:00 pm in the evening, a person named Bena Kheriya was trampled to death by elephants as he was returning home from the market.
It may be mentioned that the Government has not taken any measures to curb the conflicts between men and elephants in Assam.
North Udalguri's Koramur, Hatigarh, Majuli, Bhutiyasang, Goruajhar, Nunaikhuti, Aurangajuli, Nunaipara, Bamunjuli, Baadlapara, Aaterikhat are the places with the most man-elephant conflicts in Asia. Since the beginning of 2019, three people have died in the region due to man-elephant conflicts in the region. However, the Government has not taken any steps to resolve the issue.
Unless the growth rate of the human population is controlled, a lasting solution to human-elephant conflicts may not be possible. The human population in India is doubling every 30 years.
