A ‘Meeyamgi Wa-Lepnaba Meefham’ was held to oppose the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at the Centenary Hall, Manipur University, Canchipur yesterday.
The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF), Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM). Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) and the people along with various civil society organizations of Manipur made four resolutions at the gathering.
Firstly, they have resolved to demand an immediate withdrawal of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Secondly, they resolved to appeal to Rajya Sabha MPs of India and especially Northeast India to oppose the proposed Bill.
The third demand is the holding of a Special Manipur Assembly Session on or before 30th January to oppose the Bill.
The fourth and final resolution is the call for a united struggle for mass-civil resistance movement among political parties, civil societies as well as public of Manipur as well as Northeast India until the Bill is scrapped.
