Manipur's bridge of Barak breaks down, trucks stranded

Guwahati, February 28, 2019:

In yet another inconvenience to transporters and commuters, the new bridge of Barak that connects Puiluan & Sibilong Village along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) suddenly broke down today at around 8:00 am while a loaded truck carrying iron scraps was crossing it. There is no report of any casualty.

It may take some days to repair. Now many loaded trucks coming from Jiribam and empty trucks coming from Imphal side were stranded in both sides of the bridge.

However, light passenger four wheelers vehicles and empty mini trucks passed through the alternate old bridge. The passengers of the vehicles had to cross on foot.

It may be mentioned that the Government allows only 24 tonnes of weight to pass the bridge at a time.
