Following imposition of a 12-hour rail blockade at Chautara railway station near Gossaigaon in Assam's Kokrajhar district by supporters of Kamatapur State and demanding inclusion of Koch Rajbongshis in Scheduled Tribes list since early morning on Monday, a number of long distance trains and goods trains have been controlled at different stations under Rangiya and Alipurduar divisions.
Two local passenger trains – Alipurduar-Kamakhya-Alipurduar and New Jalpaiguri-Rangiya – have been cancelled, while Down Rajdhani Express and Guwahati-Bangalore Express have been diverted via alternative route to their destinations.
Of course, no long distance up and down train has been cancelled, informed NF Railways Chief Public Relations Officer PJ Sharma.
