MASSIVE CRACKDOWN ON DRUG PEDDLERS IN GUWAHATI

In a surprise and sudden anti-drugs drive today, the Crime Branch and and different police stations of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate swung into action and rounded up 26 persons. After verification arrested a total of nine including two women drug peddlers from various areas under Panbazar, Paltan Bazar, Latasil, Noonmati, Basistha, Hatigaon, Khetri and Sonapur police station and seized a large quantity of suspected heroine, brown sugar, cough syrup, syringes and more than five kgs of ganja including large quantity of illicit country liquor. Those arrested are Binod Verma, Dilip Verma, Tasor Ali, Rubi Ali, Neera Das, Bikram Das, Mintul Haque, Mazammil Haque and Mala Barua. Former Assam cricketer Mozammil Haque has been also taken into police custody for possessing drugs.
