GUWAHATI: Commuters have been facing hardship in reaching their destinations due to traffic congestion on several roads following restrictions imposed on vehicular traffic on the arterial GNB Road in Guwahati in view of nomination filing by several political leaders for the third and final phase of elections.
The busy AT Road, GS Road, B Borooah Road, Fancy Bazar, AK Azad Road, Chatribari and several connecting roads and streets witnessed a chock-a-block with extra rush of vehicles on them.
Many have complained of being late to their workplaces, while a number of business establishments started functioning late due to delayed arrival of employees.
Diverted roads:
• Vehicles heading from Chandmari to Jalukbari are advised to take GNB road, District Library, and RBI side roads to Panbazar flyover and AT road.The vehicles coming from the Ulubari side towards Jalukbari can move via AT road.
• Some vehicles coming from Paltanbazar to Bharalumukh can use the MLN, Panbazar Police Point , and HB road.
• Vehicles travelling from Jalukbari to Chandmari, Noonmati, and Dispur are advised to take the Apollo point exit and proceed to HB road and AT road.
• vehicles coming from Uzan Bazar and Kharghuli towards Panbazar can move via Taibullah road, GNB Road, RBI point towards AT road or via MLN road and HB road towards Bharalumukh.
Given below routes/points have been earmarked as a No-parking zone:
• HB road, MLN road, MG road, B. Barooah road,MC road,FC road, GNB road.
The following GMC lessee parking will be a no-parking zone these days
a) Parking in-front of Police Reserve, Panbazar.
b) Church Parking, (near Khubchand point)
c) Kamarpatty Masjid parking.
d) BSNL parking.
e) Cotton Collegiate HS school parking.

Parking points (Vehicles of candidates' supporters coming to file nominations will be parked at the following designated places):
1) Lachit Ghat parking
2) On both side of the road from Kalipur to Bhootnath.
3) TC Point Rotary (Kamrup Academy side)
4) Apollo point to Phulbagan BRP road crossing (north side).
The traffic advisory for Thursday and Friday has been issued for the convenience of road users during the filing of nominations by various candidates for the Assam assembly elections.
Moreover, the notification states that ambulances and other emergency services will be facilitated passage through shortage possible routes.
Police have been asked to corporate in providing safe and smooth traffic arrangement.
