Meet Junu Rajkhowa, Asst. Teacher Who Drove Students in a Bus after I-Day Celebrations

It is a common phenomenon for people to think that one driving a bus, “a bus driver” is always a male. But this time, on the occasion Independence Day celebrations, a different picture was set by the Asst. teacher of a school in Assam’s Guwahati.

Junu Rajkhowa, Asst. teacher of Narakasur High School and State Organising Commissioner (G) of Scout and Guide on Thursday was seen driving a bus on the streets of Guwahati carrying her scout and guide students. They participated at an I-Day event organized in Board of Secondary Education, Assam in Bamunimaidam.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, Junu Rajkhowa said that she along with her student of Scout and Guide were invited to participate in an event on the occasion of Independence Day, organized at the SEBA office. She said, “Although our school students participate in the parade organized at the Veterinary ground in Khanapara every year, due to the intense heat, I decided not to send them this year as many fall sick after participating in such temperature.”

In way to encourage the students, Rajkhowa said that she accepted the invitation of SEBA Office, and participated well. She added, “While returning to the school, my students asked me to drive the bus so I drove them back to school from Ganeshguri to Kahilipara.”

Expressing that the government school student does not get much exposure, she added, “I always encourage my students to participate in all the co-curricular activities and wherever I get a platform, I take them and infect I drive them to the events. During my presence since 1996, nearly 100 students of the Scout and guide received Governor’s award and nearly 50 students have cleared the examination of the President’s Award.”

The Asst. teacher also asserted that not everyone is academically sound and mentioned, “That is the reason why I support my students for other activities and whenever these students come up to me for their achievements, I really feel happy and proud.”

Revealing that she is has a weakness toward driving big vehicles, Rajhowa added that during picnic seasons, she drives the bus they book and is eager to drive ‘a train’ in the near future.

Through Inside Northeast, she also passed a message to all the women, “For the women, it is well known that they were dominated in the past saying ‘you should not’ do this or that. These words have suppressed us for a long time. There is nothing like that and if there is a will added with dedication, one can achieve anything.”

However, she also added that she has a desire to fly an aeroplane but restricted by age.
