MARGHERITA: Bhogeswar Shyam, the only tribal candidate from the 124 Margherita Constituency, recently filed his nomination as an Independent candidate.

 

Shyam, a retired Assam CS officer Secretary Handloom, Textile and Sericulture Government of Assam file his Nomination paper before Sampriti Goswami Returning officer and SDO(Civil) in Charge of Margherita.

 

Shyam, a 1986 batch ACS officer did his post-graduation in political science at Gauhati University and then joined as an Additional Commissioner at Diphu. He is a resident of Balipather in Karbi Anglong.

 

"Margherita Constituency is a region where various people irrespective of caste, creed, race, language, religion, are living here with brotherhood and harmony for many centuries. We have mineral resources, forest resources, water resources in abundance. Still, we seem to be lagging behind in every aspects," Shyam told InsideNE over the phone.

 

Holding former Congress MLA and Minister Pradyut Bordoloi and sitting BJP MLA Bhaskar Sharma culpable for this current state of affairs, Shyam said, "The state government receives a huge amount of fund from the NEC Coal India Limited, but Margherita is yet to be declared as a district. No indoor stadium, no museum is there. Only coal syndicate, sand stone syndicate, timber syndicate are rampantly going on under the nose of Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Margherita Administration(Civil) and Margherita police."

 

The former civil servant also claimed that funds are being misappropriated in the name of "development."

 

"A lot of money allocated for the development has been misappropriated by the MLA and government officers. If I am elected as an MLA from Margherita, then enquiry shall be conducted regarding anomalies and misappropriation of funds," he promised.

 

Bhogeswar Shyam, who belongs to the Buddhist faith, belongs to the Tai Aiton tribe. He is married to women from the Tai Singpho community.
