Meghalaya and Assam listed in top 10 poorest states in India

 In a recent Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report by the NITI Aayog, Meghalaya and Assam were listed as the fifth and sixth poorest states in India.

Delhi: In a recent Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report by the NITI Aayog, Meghalaya and Assam were listed as the fifth and sixth poorest states in India. 

The report by the NITI Aayog stated that 32.67 percent of both Meghalaya and Assam's population is poor. Apart from this, Nagaland was listed as the 10th poorest state with 25.23 percent population being poor.

The report also claimed that 51.91% population of Bihar is poor, followed by 42.16% in Jharkhand, 37.79% in Uttar Pradesh, 36.65% in Madhya Pradesh, and 32.67% in Meghalaya.

Arunachal Pradesh (11th with 24.27%), Manipur (14th with 17.89%), Tripura (16th with 16.65%), and Mizoram (22nd with 9.80%) were also listed in the report.
