Meghalaya CM more Concerned for Assam than Sonowal, Claims AJYCPmeghalaya

Guwahati, January 14, 2020:

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is more concerned about Assam than Sarbananda Sonowal, claimed Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) General Secretary Palash Changmai.

He opined that people of Assam should get an active Chief Minister like Meghalaya’s Conrad Sangma. Speaking with Inside Northeast, Changmai said,“The Assam CM was indifferent to issues on which he should have paid attention to. But he could not convince the people of Assam on those issues. Instead, the CM of neighboring Meghalaya took the side of the indigenous people of Assam.”

The AJYCP leader said that Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma spoke in the interest of the Assamese. “The CM has put forward the demand that Assam should be exempted from the purview of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. So, the Assamese people should always remember Conrad Sangma,” said Changmai.

Sangma’s statement supporting the Anti-CAA protesters of Assam came at a time when the Assamese were looking forward to their own leader, Sarbananda Sonowal. It may be mentioned here that Sonowal has drawn the ire of his own people after the CAA was implemented despite requests and massive agitations, leading to the death of five people.

“Sangma has won the hearts of the Assamese. Earlier also, he has played an active role in raising questions against the CAA. Conrad always sides with the indigenous people. He never compromised in Delhi. He spoke for the general public without listening to the conditions laid out by the Centre,” Changmai said, appreciating the leader’s decisions that favor the people.

Speaking highly of the Meghalaya CM, Changmai said that Assam needed a leader like him, one who can protect the interests of the people.
