Guwahati, January 28, 2019:

Tensions are running high in the Northeast as the fate of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 is still lying in the balance as it yet to be tabled at the Rajya Sabha. With protests still ravaging the region, political bigwigs who are against the Bill will congregate to hold discussions over the Bill tomorrow at Guwahati's 'Vivanta by Taj' hotel.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, along with the biggest regional party of Assam, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is the one who has called upon all political parties against the Bill to take part in discussions.

Sangma, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga as well as many other political leaders from the states of Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland are expected to be present at the meet. A press conference is scheduled at the end of the meet, which is scheduled to be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

It is to be mentioned that Sangma and Zoramthanga along with a delegation of seven North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) members met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to reconsider the position on the Bill. The Home Minister, on the other hand, has assured that a meeting will be held comprising of all Northeast leaders to discuss the Bill.
