The High-Level Committee constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to recommend measures for the implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord will hold the second round of its meeting today.
The meeting is scheduled at 2:30pm at the Assam Administrative Staff College at Resham Nagar in Khanapara.
It is to be mentioned that the first round of meeting of the committee was held in New Delhi on July 24 this year with Union Home Minister, Amit Shah.
The committee will inspect on the action taken to assess the appropriate level of reservation of seats in Assam Legislative Assembly and local bodies for the Assamese people and to suggest measures to protect Assamese and other indigenous languages of Assam.
The committee on Clause 6 of Assam Accord comprise of Justice (Retd.) Biplab Kumar Sarma, Former Judge of Gauhati High Court as Chairman, Niloy Dutta, Advocate General, Arunachal Pradesh as Member, Ramesh Borpatragohain, Advocate General, Assam as Member, Subhash Da, IAS,(Retd.) as Member, Pallav Bhattacharya, IPS (Retd.) as Member, Dr. Srishtidhar Dutta, Professor (Retd.) as Member, Sumanta Chaliha, Author & Columnist as Member, Wasbir Hussain, Senior Journalist as Member, Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharya, Chief Adviser, All Assam Student Union (AASU) as Member, Dr. Jaikanta Sharma, Professor & Columnist as Member, Dipanka Kumar Nath, President, All Assam Student Union (AASU) as Member, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, General Secretary, All Assam Student Union (AASU) as ember and Joint Secretary, North East, MHA – Member Secretary
The Committee constituted for the implement accord is working to suggest the appropriate level of reservations in employment under the Assam government for the Assamese people and other measures necessary to protect, preserve and promote cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.
