They are allegedly being threatened by the locals after a 14-month-old girl was raped on September 28 by a "non-Gujarati".
The accused was identified to be a magrant labourer from Bihar. Although the prime accused was arrested by the police, many migrant workers were beaten up by the locals. Hate messages are also being circulated on social media against non-Gujaratis.
Speaking to InsideNe, Rafiqul Haque, son of former minister Samsul Haque said that a total of 76 workers have returned back to Assam after they were threatened by the locals of Gujarat.
He added that all the workers who returned back on Thursday were from Assam's Barpeta. They were not even paid by their employers and some did not even have the money to return home.
"As they were not paid by their employers, they had to call their families and contacts for arranging the money so that they could come back home. Most of them were asked to leave Gujarat by the locals", he said.
One of the worker stated that after they were threatened, they decided to leave Gujarat as they did not feel safe. They were not even supported by the police.
The are more than thousand people from Assam stuck in Gujarat at present and they are living in a fear of being attacked by the locals.
