Guwahati, March 10, 2019:

Apollo Hospitals Guwahati has performed minimally invasive cardiac surgery for the first time in entire Guwahati 7th March 2019. A team of experts headed by renowned Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon Dr. J.P. Kalita performed this complex surgery. The surgery was performed on a 45-years-old female patient with a hole inside her heart with the leakage of one heart valve. She underwent a keyhole surgery through the chest wall rather than conventional breast bone cutting (sterwear) open heart surgery with a great success of the procedure.

The main benefit of the surgery is that the post-operative surgery recovery time is very less with less pain and minimal blood loss. Moreover, the chance of getting infected after the procedure is also comparatively less. It is to be mentioned that any patient that undergoes this surgery can do normal activities within almost two weeks from the time of getting operated. The patient is recovering well now and will be discharged soon from the hospital.

The cardiac surgery team at Apollo hospitals Guwahati is headed by Dr. JP Kalita. Dr. Kalita is an expert in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and in both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery. At the advent of this new Cardiothoracic unit in Apollo Hospitals, Guwahati, people of Assam and neighboring states will be highly benefitted.
