Minor rape survivor who becomes pregnant, threatens to commit suicide

LAHARIGHAT: A 17-year-old rape survivor from Assam's Marigaon has threatened to commit suicide if justice is not served to her.

The minor girl has accused one Taffajul Islam, a resident of Laharighat town of the district, of raping her and making a video of the crime in his mobile phone.

The crime was place four-month back but was reported to the Laharighat Police station after she became pregnant.

Talking to InsideNE, the girl said, "Taffajul raped me in my home in the absence of my family members. He also filmed the crime in his mobile phone. He threatened me with making the video viral if I told anyone about it. That’s why all this while I kept mum.”

The girl is now four months pregnant. She claims that Taffajul is the biological father of the unborn.

A case has been registered in the Laharighat police station under the number 517/21, under sections 376(2)(N) and 506 of the Indian Penal code with the R/W section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

The minor girl said, “If justice was not served I would rather commit suicide.”

The complaint of the victim’s family stated that the accused proposed the victim for marriage about eight months ago. About five months back, Taffajul visited the house and raped the girl for three consecutive days in the absence of other family members. As per the complaint, the accused also tried for an abortion after getting to know about the pregnancy.
