GUWAHATI: The Congress Member of Parliament from Kaliabor Gaurav Gogoi has accused the newly formed Bharatiya Janta Party-led Assam Government today of trying to expand their illegal activities, in hope of retaining the same the BJP wants a weak or mute opposition, hence try to break them by poaching MLAs.
MP Gaurav Gogoi came down heavily upon the Assam Government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also accused him of "covering up" the state's weak performance in NITI Aayog's SDGs list.
"CM has misled the people of Assam with forged facts. Assam failed miserably in education, health and economic segments. All of the three departments were undertaken by now Assam CM," said MP Gogoi addressing the press here.
Gogoi further added, "Chief Minister first claimed that Assam had progressed from being an Aspirant category in 2018 to Performer Category in 2020. However, the truth is all states have made some amount of progress. In fact, Assam’s progress from 2019 to 2020 was barely 2 points (55 to 57), making it the slowest overall progress among all states. In contrast, the highest growth of a state was 12 points, far from Assam’s growth rate. Assam's overall rank in this recent survey also dropped from 23rd to 26th."

When InsideNE asked Gogoi that if BJP's performance is not up to the mark then why Congress kept on falling short in front of the Saffron party even after the election when Congress strongmen keep on migrate to BJP, MP Gogoi said, "The newly formed BJP government wants to increase their illegal activities and expand their syndicates in which their members are involved in. To do so they prefer a silent or absent opposition."
Gogoi expressed, "We have been raising questions and hence the BJP wants to silence us. So they try to break our MLAs."
Gaurav Gogoi had taken the reference of Devangana Kalita and Akhil Gogoi's being in jail for more than a year and said, "It is not only politicians but they try to silence all oppositions who question them. They will put some false charges and at the end what? Could they prove anything in the court? The police kept on asking for an extension only. These are just small examples of this government's abuse of power."
When InsideNE questioned further if Gaurav Gogoi has tried to imply that the BJP had used unfair means to get a hold on the Congress MLAs, Gogoi said, "Nobody is safe who questions them. Even if you ask them questions as a journalist you will get trolled, receive threat calls. Everyone might not have the strength like Devangana has shown to fight. Few get intimated and surrender."
Gogoi also took a jibe at CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and said that he is trying to imitate Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and bringing all their outdated and unscientific concepts of cow protection and population control. Though Gogoi asserted that these two bills are necessary but their execution is wrong.
