Guwahati, January 30, 2019:

Assam MLAs belonging to the Congress as well as All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) turned up at the Assam Assembly wearing black clothes. Rupjyori Kurmi (Congress), Nurul Huda (Congress), Aminul Islam (AIUDF) and Jakir Hussain Sikdar (Congress) were seen wearing black clothes to protest the BJP’s policy of banning black clothing items from Government meetings. With this act of defiance, the MLAs challenged the Government to arrest them.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, who had turned up wearing a black satin shirt, black trousers and black sunglasses as a sign of protest against the administration said: “A child was stripped of black clothes by authorities. Today, we have come here wearing all black clothes and we condemn this Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government. We challenge them to remove our black clothes.

The incident, in which a woman was seen removing her child’s black jacket after being allegedly told to do so by authorities, has sent shockwaves across the nation.
