‘Mobile theatre producers must come together to find a way,’ Rajdweep

‘Covid-19 has affected the entire world and we all are suffering. But I think, this pandemic has completely ruined the historical mobile theatre industry of Assam.’ says Rajdweep, the young screenwriter and playwright who has been writing plays for mobile theatre for last many years.

He adds, ‘Due to this pandemic, the historical mobile theatre industry could not run this season. Thousands of artists become jobless suddenly and they are now sitting idle at home as they have no any other option right now. As usual, we had huge preparations for the 2020-21 season and we also had started various promotional activities. But suddenly everything got changed. Nobody can imagine the current situation of the artists and technicians who had been associated only with this industry for long.’

‘Not only 2020-21 season, but now we are not sure about the next season i.e. 2021-22 season. Because corona situation still is not under control. I think producers of various mobile theatre troops should come together and discuss the possible ways to do something for the industry’ Rajdweep says.

Before writing films, Rajdweep started his writing career with mobile theatre industry. In the season 2014-15, his first play ‘Akou Edin’ was staged in Hengool theatre. Then he came up with a big hit with his second play titled ‘Boliya Krishna’ in the season 2015-16.

After that there is no looking back for him. In these years, he has written around 20 plays and most of them were successful. His popular plays are Breaking News, Bonoriya, Betaal Police, Bahadur, Bauli Mur Priya, Bonxomorjyada, Betaal Police, BandookorKabita, Best of luck, BeporuwaPrem, BapukonZindabad, BoliyaDraupadi, Birangana, Baagh, Bohag Jodi Naahe etc.

Apart from writing plays and scripts, Rajdweep has been writing songs for various films, albums. Some of them are like ‘Bahniman’, ‘NotunPuhor’, ‘Maati’, ‘Raja Returns’, ‘Nijaanor Gaan’ etc.
