GUWAHATI: Apparently apprehensive of a possible post-poll alliance between the Congress-led grand alliance and the third front alliance of Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address about seven more election rallies in Assam over the next month to pre-empt any chances of setback for the BJP.

BJP sources said the rallies will be planned in such manner that every rally will cover several districts of the 33-district state.

Besides, the prime minister will address about 20 rallies in neighbouring West Bengal and those would also be designed and scheduled in such a manner that they too cover Assam districts, the sources added.

Modi has already addressed three rallies in Assam on official tours. Since the Election Commission of India has already announced the elections dates on March 27, April 1 and 6 and model code of conduct has come into force, the ensuing visits will be at the party’s cost, the sources said.

West Bengal’s 23 districts will go to polls in eight phases from March 27 to April 29.

Modi’s series of rallies is likely to start with one at Kolkata’s Brigade Ground on March 7.
