The Northeast region erupted in chaos after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Silchar that the Government intends to implement the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. Protests and ‘bandhs’ have become the norm in the Northeastern region ever since. And while the wounds of Modi’s declaration are still fresh in the minds of the indigenous people of the Northeast, Assam’s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed a sequel.
There have been murmurs of the Prime Minister’s visit in the last few days, and apparently, they are true. Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that the Prime Minister will indeed be visiting the state on February 9 and will participate in various programmes during his day-long visit.
Biswa Sarma has stated that the Prime Minister will inaugurate a bridge that shall connect the two banks of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati, estimated to cost 2187 crores.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Hollongi airport in Arunachal Pradesh and visit Tripura to speak at a BJP rally.
