Addressing a mass gathering at Silchar, Narendra Modi, the popular orator congratulated the habitants of Barak Valley for supporting the bill.
Just after the announcement, havoc was let loose in Assam and InsideNe has taken reactions from some of the prominent voices of the state
Mrinal Talukdar, Consulting editor, Pratidin Time, stated that the Prime Minister’s speech has been successful in dividing Assam into two parts. Further, he said that, the political landscape of Assam has been changed by the Modi’s controversial statement.
The possibility of a rift between Assam and Barak Valleys has been created by these divisive words of the prime minister, stated Nitumoni Saikia, Editor-in-chief, Pratidin Time. He also added that the state BJP knows it very well that the bill cannot be passed at the Rajya Sabha but the Lok Sabha will pass this bill to diversify Hindu votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Political Analyst and senior journalist, Adip Phukan, while commenting on the Citizenship Bill stated that the BJP-led Modi Government just betrayed the emotions of the people of Assam and shaken the identity of the Axomiya Jati.
“We will not let the citizenship bill pass at any cost. Along with other 70 organisations, we are still protesting against this bill. Therefore, we will not let this political hoax mislead the people”, stated Ajijur Rahman, Advisor, AAMSU
The confirmation of the amendment of the controversial bill has shaken the people of Assam and questioned the identity of the ‘jati’. Is this issue a political twist that may shake the people of Assam? This is one of the major issues that will determine the future of Assam.
