Moran BJP workers threaten to desert party if Chakradhar Gogoi gets ticket

MORAN: A section of BJP workers here today threatened to desert the party if sitting MLA from Moran Chakradhar Gogoi is awarded party ticket for the Assam assembly elections.

After Lezai and Gorudharita, BJP workers in Khowang staged a protest against the party MLA. Hundreds of party workers from different parts of the constituency joined the protest.

Accusing Gogoi of accumulating wealth through corruption in panchayats, the protesters raised slogans such as “BJP Bachao, Chakra Hatao (Save BJP, Remove Chakra)”.

The constituency will go to polls on March 27.

The protesters said several new faces are aspiring for party ticket from the constituency and the party high command should select one from them. “If Chakradhar Gogoi is given the ticket again, we will leave BJP,” one of the protesters said.
