Women have always played a crucial role in democracy and their role is ever-more important in elections in view of the burgeoning number of women who are casting their votes in elections in India, which has historically been a country with a relatively low voter-turnout for India. This new bloc of voters will play a pivotal role in deciding the fate of the netas this time around.
This year, in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, a total of 1,07,55,492 (1.07 crore) women voters will be deciding the fate of the candidates. In the state of Assam, as many as 37,37,970 women during Phase I, 33,55,952 in Phase II, and 36,61,570 in Phase III have been registered so far by the Election Commission.
For the Phase I of the elections in Assam, in Tezpur 7,31,248 women voters, in Kaliabor 8,48,176 women voters, in Jorhat 6,71,283, in Dibrugarh 6,49,533 women voters and in Lakhimpur 8,37,730 women voters have been registered.
For the Phase II, in Karimgani (SC) 6,41,349 women voters, in Silchar 5,77,283 women voters, in Autonomous District (ST) 3,90,551 women voters, in Mangaldoi 8,74,520 women voters, and in Nowgong 8,72,249 women voters have been registered to vote.
For Phase III, in Dhubri 9,07,173 women voters, in Kokrajhar (ST) 865066 women voters, in Barpeta 8,11,538 women voters, and in Gauhati 10,77,793 women voters have been registered.
