Locals have said that they discovered the vultures when they went to round up grazing animals. "There were about a hundred vultures here. Many were dead and the rest afflicted. It is a pity that so many of these precious birds have died. It might be a case of poisoning as these scavengers are used to feeding on dead meat", stated a local, while addressing the media.

The dead vultures belong to the Himalayan griffon family. The Himalayan griffon vultures are found along the Himalayas and the adjoining Tibetan plateaus. It is one of the two largest old world vultures and true raptors.
