Guwahati: The legendary music maestro, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, is being remembered across Assam on Thursday on his 9th death anniversary.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, on his 9th death anniversary, will arrive at his memorial site – Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra in Guwahati's Jalukbari locality -- to pay his respects at 10 AM.
AGP President Atul Bora and several other leaders from the state have already reached the memorial site.
Later in the evening, the Assam government will organize a cultural tribute for the departed artist in Rabindra Bhawan.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika has was an Indian playback singer, lyricist, musician, poet and filmmaker. The folk-music maestro was born on 8 September 1926 and passed away on November 5, 2011, at the age of 95.
Bhupen da, who was also known as Sudhakanta, was one of the most beloved and respected artists in the state.
His evergreen songs on humanity, love and brotherhood still echoes in the hearts of the millions generation after generation across the world.
Many social-cultural organizations across the state would be paying their heartfelt tributes to the bard of Brahmaputra.
The ministry of Culture also tweeted remembering the maestro.
