A suspected cadre of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Saraigwra (NDFB-S) was arrested a team of Kokrajhar Police and the Army from Jharbari of Ripu Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar District.
A police source said that on the basis of specific information from reliable sources regarding regular movement of some hardcore Myanmar trained NDFB(S) cadres in Ripu Reserve Forest, a joint operation was launched by Kokrajhar Police along with Army early in the morning of Tuesday. After reaching the area, the joint operations team launched multiple ambushes in Ride No 5 to Ride No 7 of the said jungle to nab the suspected cadres.
During the ambush, at around 4:00 AM, movement of one suspicious individual was seen. The joint operations team waited for the suspected individual to come closer, and at 4:15 AM the suspected individual was challenged by the joint operations team upon which he started to flee. On noticing this, the joint operations team pursued and apprehended the suspected individual at 4:15 AM. The person identified himself as Phantom Brahma alias B. Phitai, a resident of Athiabari Tenali in Kokrajhar.
The team recovered one 7.62x26 mm factory made automatic Pistol with magazine, two rounds of 7.62x26 mm live ammunitions, two Chinese hand grenades, one mobile handset and one bag from his possession.
The source added that during spot questioning, he revealed that he was a Myanmar trained cadre of 42nd batch of the organisation. He also revealed that he arrived recently in Kokrajhar District on orders of the leaders to carry out extortions.
