Guwahati, August 17, 2019:

Assam's three-time former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi once again trained his guns at the rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here today, and brought up the issue of Nagas hoisting their own flag as a worrying sign for the nation.

Lambasting the current Government, Gogoi alleged that the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP united has not fulfilled its promises after coming to power. Moreover, Gogoi pointed to the newly-appearing cracks in the country as evidence that all is not well in the nation, and the BJP has not been able to tackle many of the pertinent issues plaguing the nation.

Citing the unrest in Nagaland, Gogoi asked what his bete noire Himanta Biswa Sarma is doing to quell the feeling of of rebellion there, which has received even more furl in the wake of the abrogation of Article 370. "What is Himanta doing, he is the Convenor of NEDA", Gogoi chided, further adding that this is the first time that he has heard of 'Naga Independence Day', which falls on August 14 every year.

"The fact that they are unfurling their own flag on Naga Independence Day is a worrying sign. Even rebel outfits like the ULFA (I) issue directives to hoist their flags in Assam, but they are not allowed to do so. This is a 'danger sign'..", added the former Chief Minister, lambasting the current administration for its 'inability' to solve the 'Naga issue'.

It is being suspected that the abrogation of the Article 370 (which gave special privileges to the citizens of Kashmir), has led to a resurgence in Naga nationalism as the the Naga national flag was unfurled in many locations across the State.

It may be mentioned here that not only Nagaland, but the Nagas in Manipur too hoisted the ‘Naga National Flag’ across the state to mark the 73rd Naga Independence Day celebrations of the community, one day ahead of India’s Independence Day, which was celebrated on August 15.
