Names of wife, son not in NRC, Assam man commits suicide

Guwahati, November 12, 2018:

Depressed that the names of his family members were not included in the “complete draft” of National Register of Citizens (NRC), a man in Assam committed suicide by slitting his throat with a machete.

The incident was reported from Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district. The deceased, Abdul Jalil, were distressed for a while as the names of his wife and son were not included in NRC, sources said.

His name was included in the first draft and he was hoping that the names of his wife and son would be included in the complete draft. But when that did not happen, he slipped into depression and took the extreme step.
