NASA astronaut performs Bihu with Assamese 'gamucha' wrapped around neck

While the people of Assam get ready to celebrate the colorful flavors of 'Rongali Bihu', the culture associated with the festival has already made its mark felt in space. Just ahead of the festival, a video of a NASA astronaut grooving to the beats of Bihu is blowing up microblogging platform Twitter.

The video going viral on Twitter shows NASA astronaut Mike Fincke performing the Bihu dance with a Bihu song playing in the background. Mike wrapped a traditional Assamese ‘Gamucha’ around his neck while performing his dance. It may be mentioned that Mike is married to an Assamese lady called Renika Saikia.

The video was shared in a tweet by a journalist: “What's #RongaliBihu without song and dance. Here's #NASA astronaut Mike Fincke performing Bihu aboard the International Space Station in 2004. Mike is Assam's son-in-law, married to Renita Saikia, who also works at NASA", he wrote.
