NESO protests against Citizenship Amendment Bill

Guwahati, November 20, 2018:

On the day of the Joint Parliamentary Committee holding its crucial meeting over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has staged a massive protest against the bill in Guwahati Club Rotary on Tuesday.

The protest was participated the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Khasi Students’ Union, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation, Mizo Zirlai Pawi, Twipra Students’ Federation, All Manipur Students’ Union, Garo Students’ Union and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union.

AASU general secretary, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “We will never allow the centre to bring in more illegal migrants in Assam or anywhere in the Northeastern region. If the bill is passed then it will bring the entire Assamese community at a threat of being extinct.”

The NESO also demanded the withdrawal of all the notifications and orders like the Foreigners’ (Amendment) Order, 2015, Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 2015 and Long-Term Visa.
