GUWAHATI: Registrar of Plastic Surgery Department, Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) Dr. Ajanta Hazarika on Monday has been sent to Dibrugarh Central jail for judicial custody after she surrendered before Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dibrugarh in a cash-for-jobs scam.
Dibrugarh police registered a case against Dr Hazarika (case No 2150/20 u/s 120(B), 420, 409 and 506 ) following lodging of an FIR at Gavarupathar Police Station by one Amal Nath and three other youths alleged that Hazarika had taken Rs 22 Lakh in pretext to offering job in Indian Railways and OIL.

According to sources, Hazarika surrendered 21 days after a case was filed against her in Dibrugarh Police under sections 120B/ 420/409/406/506 of IPC on December 7.
Earlier, the police had seized all bank accounts of Ajanta Hazarika. It was further reported that her bail plea was also rejected by the court.
On December 25, Dibrugarh police arrested Simanta Jyoti Saikia, husband of Dr. Ajanta Hazarika for concealing evidence in the cash-for-job case.
