The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on June 12th, 2020 said that the students’ union has put the suspension of Bodoland movement spirit for the moment after signing BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region) accord on January 27th, 2020, last through tripartite peace talks between centre, Assam government, and Bodo leaders.

President of the organisation, Dipen Boro said that ABSU and several Bodo orgnanisations had demanded separate Bodoland state and carried out strong mass movement and accordingly the BTR was created for paving the way healthy development and welfare in the region.

"The Bodoland movement has been put under suspension after signing BTR accord for the moment and we hope that all clauses of the accord will be implemented in letter and spirit in near future" Boro added.

While attending the 33rd Bodoland martyrs’ day observation on Friday at Bhatipara martyr tomb in Kokrajhar in Assam, Boro said that the students union has been observing the Bodoland martyr’ day every year on the death day of Sujit Narzary, the first martyr of Bodoland movement. He was dead on today's day in 1987 while returning from Guwahati after participating in mass gathering for Bodoland separate state demand.

ABSU president Boro said that martyr Sujit Narzary had contributed a lot by becoming the first martyr in Bodoland in 1987. He said that the Bodo community will be remembered him and martyrs who laid their life sacrifice for the caused of the Bodoland movement. He informed that the students union has put the suspension of Bodoland movement spirit for the moment after signing BTR(Bodoland Territorial Region) accord on 27th January last. He said that ABSU and Bodo society will recall contributions of Bodoland martyrs.

He informed that over 1135 people martyred in the Bodoland movement which was led by Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma demanding separate Bodoland state.

On the BTC election, Boro said that elections must be conducted free and fair with maintaining the smooth environment in the region. He has emphasized healthy situations and condemned the unwanted situations that occurred in Kachugaon area a few days ago and urged the governor of Assam and district administration to take stern measures against the incidents.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma and former BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary, ex BTC executive member Doneswar Goyary, UPPL leader Pratibha Brahma were prominent attendees on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) and peoples from all walks of life, irrespective of organisation, parties, caste and communities including ABSU, UPPL, BPF and ABWWF leaders from Nath Yogi community have thronged at the martyrs at the tomb and offered rich floral tributes and recalled contributions of Bodoland martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the Bodoland movement led by former ABSU president Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.

Earlier, ABSU president Dipen Boro hoisted union flag at half masks followed by a floral tribute to Sujit Narzary as well Bodoland martyrs.
