Assam Buddhist body demands conservation of idols recovered in Ayodhya Ram Mandir

The Assam Buddhist body has demanded the Central government to conserve the idol residues recovered in the excavation site for construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to the media persons, Federation of Barua Buddhist Welfare Association of Assam (FBBWAA) general secretary Sibu Talukdar, said, “Residues of Lord Buddha’s idol were found in the exaction site where the Ram Mandir will be built. We do not want to hurt anyone’s sentiment. We just demand the government to conserve the idol residues in museum.”

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which has been established to oversee the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, recently said several broken statues of Hindu gods and goddesses have been found at the site where levelling operations are underway.

The ground is being levelled by tractors and JCB machines. The work began after the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments relaxed the lockdown norms and allowed construction activity.

In a historic decision, the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court had on November 9 last year unanimously ruled that the disputed 2.77-acres land in Ayodhya belongs to Ram Lalla (the child deity). It had also directed the government to give a suitable land measuring five acres to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of a mosque. It was after this judgment, several leaders including AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi had openly questioned the top court’s verdict.
