The leader of the opposition in Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia on June 12th, 2020 accused the state government of not working actively to contain the spread of the COVID-19 despite the state recorded over 3000 cases so far.

“We have no option left than to wear a face mask and maintain physical distance. Unfortunately, we have not observed any activeness of the state government and the administration to mitigate the COVID-19,” Saikia said.

He added that no strict enforcement of the lockdown rules has been observed at this crucial juncture when the COVID-19 cases are rising at an alarming rate in the state.

“We can remember how strict was the government and the administration in the first phase of the lockdown when the state had fewer cases. The government has eased down everything when they actually should be strict,” he said.

It may be mentioned that Assam has registered the highest number of the COVID-19 cases followed by 916 in Tripura, 366 in Manipur and 128 in Nagaland.
