The second wave of the flood has hit Dhemaji in Upper Assam on June 21st, 2020 leaving hundreds of families homeless.

As per information, the flash flood submerged more than 20 villages settling under the Sisiborgaon, Sripani, and Gohain panchayats of the district.

“Around 9 am, the Gainadi Bordham right side embankment has been breached due to which the villages like Kerekoni, Lalung, Bishnupur and Bordham are affected,” said Dhemaji district deputy commissioner Narsing Pawar.

He said all precautionary measures are being taken up. “SDRF boats are stationed. Necessary GR material distribution is going on. The water level is receding and restoration work will be started immediately,” he added.

However, no loss of life and damages of property has been reported so far. However, a survey is being conducted to estimate the agricultural damages.

The villagers alleged that the embankment was breached due to the lackadaisical attitude of the water resource department.
