GUWAHATI: A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has discharged Sibsagar legislator Akhil Gogoi from the remaining Chandmari Police Station case after one and a half years of being in jail.
Gogoi may come under the open sky by tomorrow itself as NIA failed to provide proof against Gogoi to back the claims of his nexus with the Maoists.
Akhil Gogoi was arrested in December 2019 from Jorhat under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, (UAPA) for his alleged role in violent anti-CAA protests and probable nexus with the Maoists based on two cases filed in Chabua and Chandmari Police Stations.

On June 25, the special NIA court discharged Akhil Gogoi from the Chabua Police Station case as NIA failed to frame charges against him.
For the Chandmari Police Station case, the advocate representing NIA plead for some more time for the hearing.
Today Gogoi was brought to the court at around 10 am and NIA court discharged him from all the charges.
