The National Investigation Agency (NIA) revealed that Burdwan blast accused Sahanur Alom was the man behind the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) recruitment in Lower Assam’s Barpeta district in December, 2019.

The NIA on Friday informed about the development while filing its first supplementary charge-sheet at an NIA Special Court in Guwahati against two JMB terrorists - Hafizur Rahman and Azaharuddin Ahmed.

According to a press statement, the two JMB terrorists have been booked under charges of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The case was re-registered by the NIA on December 21, 2019 which had arisen out of the First Information Report (FIR) registered by Assam Police in Barpeta district on July 30, 2019.

"On 29.07.2019, acting on a source information about the presence of one trained JMB suspect, Barpeta Police conducted search on 30.07.2019 t the house of Hafizur Rahman R/o Karagarigaon, Barpeta. During search, one countrymade revolver, four rounds of live ammunition and Jehadi literature were reportedly recovered from his (Hafizur Rahman's) house," read the statement.
