Leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia has clarified that the Congress party will not form any alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in Assam for the Lok Sabha elections.
The statement was made on Tuesday during the Congress Legislature Party meeting at its office in the State Assembly.
Saikia said, “Rumours have spread that the AIUDF and the Congress are going to form alliance in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. But we are against any alliance with the AIUDF. We have already discussed the matter. We’ve also adopted a resolution against any alliance with the AIUDF. We will be sending the resolution to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and the party’s high command.”
He also added that the AIUDF chief Badaruddin Ajmal is a businessman, and since his party is weakening and the Congress is strengthening at the national level, so Ajmal is keen to forge alliance with them.
