No Bursting of Firecrackers After 10 PM: Kamrup (M) DC

Guwahati, October 24, 2019:

The Supreme Court has issued a prohibitory order for crackers sounding more than 125db.

The apex court in its order also stated that it prohibits bursting of firecrackers after 10:00 pm during the days of the Diwali celebration in the country, which will be enforced by the local authorities.

Speaking with Inside Northeast, Deputy Commission of Kamrup (Metro), Biswajit Pegu said that the people can burst firecrackers from 8 pm to 10 pm. "The SC has sent directions to the pollution control board to comply, and accordingly, the board has passed it on to all the DCs. The District Administration, Kamrup (Metro) issued the guidelines as per the SC orders. We have also formed task forces to ensure that the guidelines are being followed. These forces will monitor and inspect commercial stock lists and retailers of firecrackers.”

Keeping in mind the distress that these crackers can cause to animals and birds, Biswajit Pegu also stated that instructions have been issued not to burst firecrackers in areas near zoos, and hospitals. He added, “This direction also stops the use of firecrackers generating noise above the permissible level.”

The DC has also appealed to the people of Assam to celebrate Diwali without harming the environment, keeping in mind the co-existence of animals and birds around us.

Meanwhile, the Assam Science Society has urged the people of Assam to avoid "Chinese products" and use eco-friendly products in their stead.

It may be mentioned here the Supreme Court through an order has prohibited crackers sounding more than 125 decibels.
