No pandal hopping during Durga puja this year

The Durga puja organizing committees in Assam have decided to celebrate this year’s puja only with rituals  but of the view that there would be no pandal hopping. The committees opined that there would be no much fervor this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Puja committees in Guwahati held a meeting with the Kamrup (Metro) district administration and decided to hold this year’s puja only spiritually but at the same time said that a final call will be taken by the government in the days to come. On the other hand, some puja committees are of the opinion to hold ‘ghat puja’.

It was decided in the meeting that 75% of the committees will celebrate the puja in a minimum expense to ensure that the devotees could get a glimpse of the Goddess Durga and seek her blessings. The committees have also decided not to organize any cultural evenings. Moreover, the puja committees will also cancel all the cultural nights in Vishwakarma puja.

Of the total 1,05,774 COVID-19 positive cases in the state, 21,548 are active, while 83,927 have been discharged and three migrated out of the state. Over 300 people have succumbed due to the deadly virus. Several legislators of the state including former chief minister have also tested positive of the dreaded disease.
