Former chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi has urged upon the Finance minister of the state Himanta Biswa Sarma to release the fund sanctioned by his govt. during their tenure.
In a statement sent to the media houses the octogenarian politician reiterated that his govt. had sanctioned an amount of Rs. 5 crore for Advocates Welfare Fund under Bar Council and accordingly it was informed by LR & Secy. Judicial department on February 17’ 2016. But surprisingly, the Sarbananda Sonowal led BJP government never released the amount.
Gogoi stated that the lawyers are in a state of distress as the courts are non functional for the last five months. He added that the advocates are in immense hardship and justice to the people have been denied. Gogoi lamented that he does not see any justification in keeping the courts closed for such a long time.
