GUWAHATI: A journalist hailing from Guwahati Assam has been accorded a status of a "hero" after a daring attempt to rescue a nurse at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday, December 14. Although the journalist was stabbed during his attempt to rescue the unidentified nurse, his efforts have been lauded and he has been accorded "hero" status by locals of Assam's largest city.
The journalist in question, a certain Afnur Ali who works for a local electronic media company, saw a man threatening a nurse with a dagger.
Newlywed Afnur had reportedly gone to the GMCH to pick up his wife, who works at the hospital. Afnur, in a bid to rescue the woman, whom he perceived to be in trouble, charged at the man, who proceeded to attack the journalist with his dagger, making a deep gash on his face.

After this episode, both the nurse as well has journalist have been admitted to the GMCH, where both are said to be fighting for their lives. Doctors in a bid to patch Afnur up performed 34 stitches on his face.

Meanwhile, the assailant, identified as a certain Pankaj Baishya, is an employee of the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). He has been arrested by police and interrogations are underway.
