Guwahati, August 20, 2019:

Tributes poured in for the departed Rajiv Gandhi (20 August 1944 – 21 May 1991) on the occasion of his 75th Birth Anniversary. Prominent leaders from the Northeast Indian states were not too far behind in paying their rich tributes to the departed leader.

Taking to Twitter, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb wrote, "My humble tributes to Former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi ji on his 75th birth anniversary."

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Northeast Democratic Alliance Convenor, Himanta Biswa Sarma, wrote, "I pay my humble tribute to former PM Sri Rajiv Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary."

Tripura Congress President Pradyot Manikya reminisces, "Met Rajiv Gandhi just two days before his demise for the only time in my life . I was a small boy but his smile, warmth and handshake( i still remember ) made a profound impact on me . To me he was a good man who left us too soon

Tarun Gogoi, a three-time former Chief Minister of Assam also took to Twitter to pay his tribute to Rajiv Gandhi, describing him as a "far-sighted visionary who always accorded top priority to education and science & technology which laid the edifice of a modern and vibrant India."

The Government of Assam on Tuesday, August 20, celebrated the Sadbhavana Diwas - which is held annually on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

A programme was held at the Assam Secretariat to mark the occasion, where a Sadbhavana pledge by administered by Rajiv Kr. Bora, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Finance, Transformation and Development, etc, departments, among the officers and staff of the Assam Secretariat.
