Noted Artist Benu Misra No More

Guwahati, May 29, 2019:

Noted artist Benu Misra is no more. The renowned artist from Assam breathed his last at his Kahilipara residence early in the morning on Thursday. Misra had been keeping unwell for some time. He was 80.

He was the founder-president of Guwahati Artists' Guild (formed in 1976) which is one of the most important platforms for aspiring artists in the state.

Misra was born in Assam's Barpeta district in 1939, but the late artist relocated to Guwahati in 1946. He studied art at the Shantiniketan in West Bengal.

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to pay his condolences. He tweeted: "Deeply saddened at the demise of noted artist Benu Misra. He made immense contribution towards the fine arts with paint and brush. He will be remembered for his contribution for setting a permanent platform like the Guwahati Artists' Guild for carrying out artistic activities. His death is a irreparable loss to the state. Apart from wishing for the departed soul's peace, I also extend my heartiest condolences to his bereaved family."
